I would like to announce that I am once again volunteering to help run the New Player Help Center section at Stan's. For those players who are not familar with this feature, the link to these pages can be found near the top of Challenge Central or HERE. Since there were a number of players on the Volunteer List to Play New Players (found HERE) that were no longer playing at the site, or had many forfeited games, I am looking for new volunteers to join up and help provide new players to the site with a source of possible games. If you are interested, here is what is required: To volunteer for this list, you must be a player with an established rating in the new rating system (see HERE), and, preferably, not had any loss forfeits, although each person will be looked at on a case-by-case basis before being approved or rejected. You must register with the message board (if you haven't already done so, using your Stan's ID if possible), so you can be contacted via the site's private message system, if need be. Players who volunteer for these positions must understand that they are ambassadors for this site, and should act accordingly when playing newcomers. Those who would like to have their names added to the Volunteer List, click HERE.

Players who volunteer for these positions must understand that they are ambassadors for this site, and should act accordingly when playing newcomers. Anyone who is rude or offensive, will be immediately removed from the list. Reyn, It was good of you to volunteer for this job, and I hope it works for you, and for the site! That said, please slacken off a bit! I think by now I, and probably most of active players, have some comprehension as to how best to represent SNC, that being so I instinctively rail against anyone (in this case you!) who feel they have a need to spell out to me (everyone!) that as, 'ambassadors for this site', they, 'should act accordingly' ... Why not make the reasonable assumption that anyone who chooses to help in this regard steps forward with the sole intention of assisting and support SNC. Who would want to wreck the ship s/he's sailing/serving on? Not all decent people play chess, but all chess players are decent ... aren't they?

It was put together co-operatively by myself and Savin, and Stan had no objections, back in 2004 (I believe). If Stan or Savin wish to change the paragraph at the bottom of the page, I have no problem with that. I'll leave it up to their judgement.

I think what Reyn posted was fine. He is just letting people know that if they join the list then start abusing their opponents he will remove them from this list.
I understand your point that we could maybe assume that anyone joining the list wants to help, but 8 years of experience has shown that it is not always the case.

Why not make the reasonable assumption that anyone who chooses to help in this regard steps forward with the sole intention of assisting and support SNC. Who would want to wreck the ship s/he's sailing/serving on? Agreed. Having put our names forward with the intention of supporting SNC and welcoming any potential newcomer, it would seem pointless to try and harm that approach.

As already has been stated, I have no problem in either Stan or Savin changing the contentious wording of that paragraph at the bottom of that page that I provided the link to, if they deem it necessary.
Having said that, perhaps readers can now focus on other areas of the New Player section and step forward and help out by volunteering to play newcomers.

For those new players to the site that have come to the message board for the first time, I'm always available for a game. Just click my "Challenge Me" button at the bottom of this post and you can start a game directly. In the meantime, any players with an established rating in the New Rating System can volunteer to play newcomers by clicking HERE.

The newcomer section formerly known as New Player Central, has now been renamed as the New Player Help Center.
Stan is in the process of updating some of the info in those pages, and a new link will be seen shortly at the top of Challenge Central.

I would love to join Reyn but I have made tomeany foreits . Otherwise I would join. Daniel Try registering HERE and check it out anyways. I believe you're allowed a certain percentage of forfeits. If not, try again in a while when you've played more games without forfeit.

There are many people with multiple accounts, so it is "legal", but I wonder if it is really a good idea for you to sign up a new account just for this. I think if you just continue to play and not forfeit games, your forfiet percentage will drop and you will eventually be able to join the volunteer list. You can always post challenges and put something like "new players welcome" like Reyn does.
