Zormaster, The invites were sent out according a strict protocol: There are 13 spots in the Site Championship. An invite is sent to the current site Champion (Wolf) An invite was sent to the winner of the Expert Swiss (probably Cavallo, but only Savin could passibly catch him) An invite was sent to the winner of the Platinum Division of the NetPlayers tournment (probably Savin, but only Myrlynn can catch Savin) An invite was sent to the winner of the Open Swiss (Cavallo). Only players with established ratings receive and invite. After this invites are sent out to the top rated players at the site based on the new rating system. If a player declines the invite or fails to respond within a reasonable period of time the invite is removed and the next highest rated player is sent an invite. The following players declined an invitations: 1) Senna2 2) Caissa 3) Centerman 4) Myrlynn The following players did not respond: 1) ast68 2) Gunner Top 20 Players at the Site Based on Ratings1 | cavallo | 2518 | 2 | sisyfos | 2472 | 3 | Savin | 2436 | 4 | Wolf | 2433 | 5 | ast68 | 2427 | 6 | Mati | 2397 | 7 | Seneca54 | 2393 | 8 | senna2 | 2391 | 9 | nobodyspawn | 2376 | 10 | Cardinero | 2375 | 11 | powerpoul | 2375 | 12 | Caissa | 2355 | 13 | Centerman | 2350 | 14 | MyrLynn | 2347 | 15 | Sasha | 2328 | 16 | gunner | 2322 | 17 | Rock16 | 2320 | 18 | anastas87 | 2312 | 19 | FREEBIRD1056 | 2302 | 20 | hana-chessprincess | 2297 |
Hence the final accepted invite went to FREEBIRD1056. The next person who would have recieved an invite was Hanachessprincess. On an official tournament such as this we are forced to stick to the rules. The 2007 Site Tournament will follow the same rules: Automatic invites to the winners of the Expert Swiss, Open Swiis, Platinum Division of the netPlayers Tournament and the current Site Champion. Other invites will be based on the ratings at the time the invites are sent out. Hopefully this clears up any confusion

Well, it is sad that none of the top ladies of the site (Caissa, Myrlynn, Zor, Hanna) are playing, and quality players like senna2 and gunner will be missed also. But there is a new generation of top players at Stan's and they also deserve their chance for glory.
Frankly I was quite surprised to see the name of anastas87 there. He and larryljubo are from my home country and they are both in the top division of the NetPlayers league! I know well who larryljubo is (Bulgaria is a small country and I know all the good players), but this kid anastas87 is a real enigma for me. If his name is really Anastas (not very common local name) and he is born in 1987, then he is either an undiscovered chess prodigy, or an ambitious guy who knows how to operate his Fritz...
Anyway, good luck to all participants in the Site ch'ship!

Savin,
Could you include a link to the tournament, as I'd be very interested to follow the games that are played.

There are currently 9 active Stan's Senior Masters and 16 Stan's Masters at the site. We also have another 20 active Stan's Candidate Masters.
How a player achieves this titles is a little complicated, although it is fully automated. The first step is a player must be awarded the title of Stan's Candidate Master.
A player gets awarded this title if they meet the following conditions: 1) They have an established rating of over 2175 2) They have completed at least 6 games against Stans Masters or Stans Senior Masters 3) They achieved a NORM in the games against the Masters and Senior masters of at least 2200. The NORM means that their result is statistically what would be expected of a player rated 2200 or higher.
All Candidate Masters can be awarded the title of Stan's Master. But they must first meet the following criteria: 1) Have completed at least 15 games against other Stan's Masters or Senior Masters. 2) Have a rating of at least 2200 3) Have a norm in the games against the Masters and Senior masters of at least 2200.
Once a player is awarded the title of Stan's Master it is possible for them to be awarded the Title of Stans Senior Master, but they must meet the ffollowing: 1) have ccompleted at least 35 games against Stan's Mastrs and Senior Masters 2) Have a rating of 2300 or higher 3) Have a norm in the games agains the other masters of 2300 or higher

Is there a quick way of seeing how many Stan Masters, or Senior Masters you have played, and what your NORM rating is in those games?

Gritty, This report should give you the information. However, this report only tracks that information for players who are Expert or Category 1 (levels 5 and 4). For players with lower ratings the norm information can be a little misleading. NORM's are only meaningful if: 1) Your performance is with 300-400 rating points of the target. For instance, in games against players rated 2200 on average a NORM below about 1900 does not mean much. The way NORMS work you could lose 19 games a draw one and still only have a NORM 400 below. 2) NORMS don't mean much until you have at least 5 games completed against the Masters. www.stansco.com/cgi-bin/nc_publication.cgi?nrs-norms-main?nowidthlimit
