Links to pages on game comments

Hi Stan

When you are talking to someone through the game comments and want to send a link to a certain page, it comes up as normal text.

Is there any way to make it so that it is possible to just click on the link to get to the page rather than having to copy and paste the link to the address bar?

I could do that. There are a couple of things that make me hesitate though...

First - I currently have it break up long "words" into a maximum of 20 consecutive characters. That is so if someone types 200 characters without a space, the page won't be extended out to the right (making you scroll to the right to see the board). In hyperlinks, I'd have to stop breaking up the string of characters. Of course that could be done, but then I might have people abusing the system with loooong hyperlinks that aren't real hyperlinks.

The other thing is a little thing, but it does worry me a bit - If someone enters a link to a porn site or something like that, then if it is made into a link, then it looks like my site has links to a porn site. This is not a show-stopper, but it is a little bit of a concern.

Overall, I think it would be best to leave it the way it is. For the few times someone enters a link in their comment, it is not too hard to copy and paste it into the location bar of your browser to go to the link.

I'm open to feedback if you want to continue this thread.

You're right, for the hassle it may cause, it's easier to copy and paste the link into the address bar. I didn't think of the consiquences.

I think the real difference is that the message board is moderated by (I think) Stan and Savin who can quickly remove anything which might be offensive. I had occasion a year or two back to complain about a posting I found offensive and it was removed very promptly. I would be surprised if Stan was able to screen all the comments in all the games played here.... I wouldn't mind if Savin were to screen the moves I make though- some of them have lead to positions which I, personally, found very offensive and left me feeling disgusted!
