Site not responding - should be back soon

Well - this is one advantage of having the Message Board hosted off of my server...

The site has not been responding for a little while now. I called my hosting service and they say that their provider is working on the problem.

You can see that it is not just my server by checking www.smarthosting.com

The whole datacenter is offline. Thousands of websites.

Looks like the datacenter fixed their problem just a little after 9pm Eastern USA time Sunday night. Sorry about that everyone. It was totally out of my control.

We went a long time without problems like this, but again this morning the datacenter seems to be offline. It should be back soon.

I don't know... I wish I did.

Seems to have these little blips of time where the database is unavailable. I have been in touch with my hosting service. Sorry for the inconvenience. Please be assured that I am doing everything I can to keep the site up 100% of the time.

Thanks, Stan. I've checked back at 1pm, and all seems to be fine again, although a little slower than usual.

I as well have noted that there seems to be varied times of the day when odd stuff occurs, but generally things have run smoothly.

OK - good news...

I know the errors have started happening again a little bit this morning, but I just had a good talk with my hosting service and they are going to upgrade my server. It will be a couple of weeks before they can do it, but they will continue to try to help with the current database errors we are getting, and the new server will be a much better (and faster) server. There will be a short downtime when they move me over to the new server, but they said they will let me know when it will happen so I can warn you guys.

Sorry again for the database trouble. I think the news is positive in the long run.

Yeah, I wasn't able to make any moves until just now this morning.

It is indeed positive news about the upgrade. Hopefully, they're not going to charge you more for it.

Thanks, Stan, for keeping us informed. I'm sure we all appreciate it. That way, we can prepare.

If I can make a suggestion. Since we know only a small number of players come to the message board, how about putting updates on this topic on the "Move Submitted Page"?

So Stan, is there a firmer date on this server upgrade yet? We're nearly there at the "couple of weeks" time frame.

No - they still have not given me a date, but I have been in contact with them almost every day for the past week. They are trying to help me, and I am trying my best to help all of you. Nobody is more frustrated with the problems than I am.

I'll let you know as soon as I know anything more.
