OK - good news... I know the errors have started happening again a little bit this morning, but I just had a good talk with my hosting service and they are going to upgrade my server. It will be a couple of weeks before they can do it, but they will continue to try to help with the current database errors we are getting, and the new server will be a much better (and faster) server. There will be a short downtime when they move me over to the new server, but they said they will let me know when it will happen so I can warn you guys. Sorry again for the database trouble. I think the news is positive in the long run. So Stan, is there a firmer date on this server upgrade yet? We're nearly there at the "couple of weeks" time frame. No - they still have not given me a date, but I have been in contact with them almost every day for the past week. They are trying to help me, and I am trying my best to help all of you. Nobody is more frustrated with the problems than I am. I'll let you know as soon as I know anything more. Stan, It's been 4 weeks since you announced the news about the server upgrade. I imagine you have been in contact with your host. Why have they delayed this work for so long? It seems to have been put on the backburner.

I know... I'm sorry - I don't know what the delay is. I'm working on it.
By the way - the problem that lead to them agreeing to upgrade my server has been resolved. Maybe that is why they haven't scheduled it. I will do what I can to get it done.

Okay, thanks, Stan. Perhaps you could find out if they now intend to do it at all.
If they are still going ahead, and I would be doubtful on that, it will probably be months.
I don't know about the resolution of the problems either. There are still times when access slows right down.

"the problem that lead to them agreeing to upgrade my server has been resolved"... would seem to be incorrect, Stan. Could you please let us know some time this week if your host still intends to carry on with this server upgrade, or have they cancelled it completely? And, if it is going ahead, info on a new timeline would be greatly appreciated. In addition to the outage, I have been experiencing the occasional slowness where a page just seems to hang unloaded for some time. Of course, this may, or may not, be anything directly to do with the host /server.

Reyn - It wasn't my host that told me the problem had been solved - it was something I could see and have positive proof that the problem was solved. It was a problem with a DNS server at the hosting facility and my programs accessing my database. They suggested a different way to connect and it solved the issue that was causing a little downtime every day. I don't doubt that you see slowness at times, but I do wonder if it is due to my server/hosting facility, or if it might just be routing issues between your area and the facility occasionally. When you do see slowness, try going to www.smarthosting.com and see if their site seems slow also. If it is, then the problem is not my server. I can tell you that my server is not overloaded at all. I have never seen the server even close to it's maximum capability. There are tools available to me to monitor the performance of the machine. They still want to upgrade because the server is now about 6 years old and they would rather be proactive - rather than reacting to a crash of the machine. I'm still in contact with my hosting service. They still intend to do my upgrade. I will let you know as soon as I know when it will happen.

Okay, thank you for that, Stan. It's good to see for the site that the upgrade will go ahead.
I'll make checks, as you suggested, if any slowness does occur.
