In case some of you are not playing games right now, but are checking the Message Board - here is a message that has been posted in the Move Confirmation page:
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ALL Due to problems with down time, reports of access problems and customer service getting worse and worse, I have decided to move to a new hosting service for the Stan's NetChess server.
Stan's NetChess will be shut down at noon (eastern USA time) on Sunday the 26th of November and will not be available again until about 48 hours from then - probably sooner for many. The domain will still be stansco.com, and all pages will have the same address that they have now. There is no change for you at all. The reason that the new server will be available sooner for some is that the DNS change will propogate out to all of the various DNS servers around the world over 24 hours.
The downtime is necessary for a couple of reasons - I have to move some data over after the shutdown on the old host, and I cannot change the DNS pointers for stansco.com until after I have completed the transfer of data from the old server to the new server.
I hope this new host will be more reliable and faster in sending data out.

I assume there will be a suspension of the forfeit routine but I am wondering how that will be handled if the server will be available sooner to some than others?

Every year I suspend the forfeit routine from before christmas till after the new year. I was thinking this year I might suspend it for the entire month of December (from the time I move the site till the week after New Years).
If I get a lot of negative feedback about that, then I will run it in December, but I would not start running it until at least a few days into December (about a week after the move is completed).
