Hi everyone
1. I want to report that the different levels (Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Expert) are not used appropriate. I know this will change with the new rating system, but i would like to see it changed earlier (Talking of the new rating system began more than a year ago, introducing it may take anoter while).
What is the problem?
Some players with ratings below 2000 (in the current rating system) are rated Experts. Other players with ratings over 2100 are rated Intermediate or even Novice.
I suggest that the level will be assigned according to the rating of the player (like in the new rating system).
Something as follows:
Beginner < 1550
Novice 1550-1849
Intermediate 1850-2149
Advanced 2150-2449
Expert >= 2450
2. When players are posting a challenge, they can choose which levels they want to play against. This should also be changed. There are players which are registered as a level 2 player (for example with rating 1700) that only want to play level 4 or 5 players. If then you are a level 3 player with rating 1950, it means you can't accept that challenge. However, i am sure the level 2 player has a 'challenge' playing an opponent ranked 250 higher. A much higher ranked opponent, say a level 5 ranked player with rating 2500 would make not much difference, even in case you manage to win (which i doubt with a rating difference of 800).
What i want to say is the following: the result of the game is much more important than the rating difference.
Between a win and a loss there is a 32 point rating difference (for players rated lower than 2100).
When playing a much higher ranked opponent (2500 instead of 1950) the difference is only 4 points (rating difference of 800 instead of 250) (Assuming the result of the game would be the same)
I suggest players, when posting a challenge, have at least to specify their own level (e.g. 2), and the other levels they specify should be adjacent (the latter is already build into the challenge-maker)
If they only want to play strong players, they should then select also levels 3, 4 and 5 and specify a rating limit (e.g. 2200+) (If they are afraid people will not listen, they should create a double acceptance-challenge).
I hope this can be changed in the not too distant future, because now (I am registered as a level 3 player with about 2050 rating), there are players setting a rating limit 2000+, but I can't accept their challenge because they specify only level 4 and 5.
