Many players wonder how they are doing in a tournament. We have constructed a little calculator to help you work this out. All you will need is the ratings of the oppenents that you have played and your current score (1 pt for a win 0.5 pts for a draw) The tool has some numbers already in the table to help you see how it works. www.stansco.com/cgi-bin/nc_publication.cgi?snc-nars-tourney-calculator?

I used perseus's results from the netplayers as an example: Opponents ratings: 1837 1669 1710 1700 1637 1651 1594 1654 1584 Score 8.0 (8 wins) The calculator predicted that Perseus would get 6.0 pts from the tournament. Based on his score of 8.0 it concluded he was playing at the level of a 2450 player. Keep in mind the calculator has problems with perfect scores. If Perseus had scored 7.5 pts it would have concluded he played nat the level of a player rated 2128. I got the information for Persus from his division page: www.stansco.com/cgi-bin/nc_publication.cgi?snc-et-div-swiss-div-summary?-142?19Taking another example I used the Pearl Division from the same tourney: www.stansco.com/cgi-bin/nc_publication.cgi?snc-et-div-swiss-div-summary?-142?12Paul Morphy is leading this tournament with 6 pts from 7. His opponents ratings from the 7 completed games are: 1808 1774 1789 1795 1839 1779 1714 The calculator predicted he would have 4.5pts and based on his 6pts from 7 estimates that he is playing at the level of a player rated 2101. But keep in mind that anything can happen in the span of just 10 games. If paul only had 5.5 pts the estimated rating would be 2015.
