Taking Vacations days during Tournaments

I think it's totally unacceptable!!!! 7 days is plenty of time to make a move!!!! I have a game against Luker no move has been made But!! the vacation days kick in

The vacation days can be used at any time.

The only stipulation is that only 15 consecutive days can be used after the forfeit time of 3, 7, or 14 days have gone by.

Games with 21 or 30 day forfeit times do not get protected by vacation time.

Maybe in the future we can have tourneys that don't allow vacation usage. I think most other chess sites have vacation-type provisions. When we didn't have the vacation plan at the site, I was constantly getting complaints saying every other site has a provision to miss some time.

I know it can be frustrating to wait, but I think the vacation plan helps more than it hurts.

I don't think there will be many cases when you have a tournament without vacation. Most tournaments last 6 months to 2 years. Often the player has little control over the pace of game if there opponent is playing slowly. In the case of site tourneys it gets worse since these can last years and years. This year I got a game in one that I had not made a move in for over 12 months -- I had forgot I was even in the tourney.

Until we find a way to have tourneys that start and end in under 90-120 datys vacation time is a must for everyone.

stan or savin, this is slightly off topic, but how difficult would it be to automatically keep track of how many days it takes a player to make a move? i know that when issuing a challenge you specify an expected pace for the game, but that isn't enforced. i personally have a preferred pace, and would rather play opponents with the same preference, as opposed to those who claim a certain pace but play at a far different one for whatever reason.
