Flukes and Strange Moves ? Anybody got any? Best are the ones that come off. www.stansco.com/cgi-bin/nc_game.cgi?320994?32b?black?largeis a deliberate Rook sacrifice for position. It was unsound and would have lost against correct play. As it was it probably won the game (the opponent did not finish).

That's probably the longest game i've ever seen, hehe!
Has anyone played any longer games than that?

That's probably the longest game i've ever seen, hehe! Has anyone played any longer games than that? Long? It's only 49 moves! Most people have played longer games than that. I don't think anything below 60 moves could be called a long game.

This concern about game longevity seems 'off topic', even so, for those interested, one online authority gives the longest Chess game as 269 moves between I. Nikolic and Arsovic, Belgrade 1989, which ended in a draw! This and other strange/bizarre chessic facts can be found at: www.chess-poster.com/english/notes_and_facts/did_you_know.htm

beck, thanks for posting that. white hasn't played the best moves, correct? what's supposed to be the best line for white? if it's a bother posting an entire variation, just the first move that differs from the one actually played might be helpful.

That game is a farce, no business being mentioned here.

i've played that variation quite a few times, and as white i usually don't allow that to happen(ie, don't go for a fried liver unless i'm positive that my opponent won't play 4..Bc5(or he would play nothing else if i do wanna tackle it with white.)) i've developed analysis for the black side of this variation and maybe i'll post it when the game's over.(it won't take long) as concerning the white side of play, i'm still struggling to find an answer.

i see, so the usual line is still ...4. d5 5. exd etc, which was rather sharp to begin with. ;D

Longest game on Stans? 60+ for starters. The game of 49 moves would have exceeded the sixty if it finished. I doubt if any of my games have gone over fifty though. I make a blunder before then!

Longest game of mine = 64. www.stansco.com/cgi-bin/nc_game.cgi?323796Utterly dreadful game which would have gone on longer if I had not unaccountably about three times in the game pressed the wrong button by mistake. Over 100 moves would be long.

The longest game on Stan's netChess lasted 130 moves. The longest game to end without a forfeit was started on October 10, 2003 and ended on December 29, 2005 lasting 811 days and with 51 moves played. The game ended with Black Resigning. www.stansco.com/cgi-bin/nc_game.cgi?211879A review of games that completed without a forfeit and made it to at least the 16th move shows that the aveage time that a player takes to reply to a move at Stan's is 1.85 days. Of these games: 96.5% had an average of less than 2 days per move. 93.0% had an average of less than 1.5 days per move. 89.0% had an average of less than 1.2 days per move. 84.6% had an average of less than 1.0 days per move.
