Just want to thank everyone who plays at Stan's NetChess. Today we reached 500,000 games started overall!
I wish I had more time time to devote to the site, but I do put in some time every single day in making sure it stays running and responding to emails. I appreciate eveyone sticking with me even though the site hasn't seen many updates lately.
Here's to another 500,000!

January 12, 1998 was the first day that the first version of the site went live. Back then, moves were sent to me via email and I applied them to the games each night. I remember going on vacation to Niagra Falls in 1998 and sitting on the hotel room floor stressing about being able to connect and apply the moves for the night. I don't think I ever missed a night. In 1999, I converted the site to make the moves live. The move program is one of the most interesting programs I have ever written. Taking all the rules of chess and making the program deal with check, checkmate, castling and En Passant was a great challenge and great fun for me.

Yes this is the best chess site to play on,bells and whistles are just bells and whistles this is chess.Pioneering work with the JAVA too

The 500,000 is just number of games started. There is no check for moves made in the games. There are some games where no moves were made, but it's a pretty small percentage.

Congrats Stan. I'm happy to say I've been here since July of 99, my first game was 2190. Here's to another 500K.

Keep up the good work, very few sites that stayed free still offer this level of service!
Subscribers help a lot but I know that hasn't always paid the bills so thanks for sticking with it Stan =)

Excellent to hear... Still my favorite chess site and I really enjoy most of the players I get the chance to play against... looking forward to another 500,000 games!

Member since July 1999. Sometimes I leave for awhile but I always come back for a few games now and then. Thanks Stan for keeping the site going.
