I joined Netchess in 1998 when I first began to learn the game. For a few years this was a very active community and I enjoyed the games and meeting people from around the world. Like many others I have moved on to more real-time games but I still check back every once in awhile and see that the site is still going.

There is something to say for persistence in a rapidly changing world, and I think it is awesome that Stan still takes the time to maintain his site and interact with players. Netchess will never be a slick chess server like other well-funded sites but that's ok. There is a certain amount of nostalgia I experience every time I check back in, and I enjoy browsing through all of the 604 games I completed over the years.

I hope enough people will continue to play correspondence chess at Stan's to keep the site alive. It will be a sad day when I go to the NetChess site and not have that green background pop up. Thanks Stan for bringing many years of enjoyment and challenge to so many players.

Thanks for the nice comments. I hope I can keep everything going long into the future. Maybe if I ever get into a position again where I have more time, I can make some changes.
