Mainly because I have never promoted to a Knight before. The idea was to get the opponent to resign as he could have realised that promoting to a Queen or Rook would have finished the game earlier as he did not have to take the Knight.

Anyone promoted to a piece other than a Queen for valid reasons? I have played 72 games and only promoted one pawn and that got taken the next go! Chess Brilliancy (well, an elegant ending) and it was not recorded Last night I achieved a first for me in Chess, one that I have been looking for in hundreds of games, but never achieved it. And it was OTB. For the first time ever, I promoted a Pawn to Knight because this was the quickest way to finish the game and this was sussed about four moves ahead. My opponent had lost (but because I am prone to blunders especially when drinking in the pub and playing chess) but was playing on because there was an hour before closing time. If I had queened the pawn I would have drawn by stalemate, so I delayed picking up the Knight. It was not quite as good as it could have been because I had already Queened one pawn.

PS: I have never got a 180 at darts. One by one, certain achievements have been attained.
